Implement the Cork Declaration: solutions for and from mountain areas

Following the presentation of the Cork Declaration “A better life in rural areas” by the European Commission in September 2016, Euromontana publishes a position paper to provide some insights on its implementation.
Some initiatives are already underway, including those initiated by Euromontana and its members, and mountain areas can make a significant contribution to achieving the objectives of the Cork Declaration. However, further steps are needed to ensure its effectiveness.

This position paper includes:

• Examples of initiatives already underway that contribute to improving life in rural and mountain areas in line with the Cork Declaration.
• Recommendations to the European Commission to ensure a better implementation of the Declaration, in particular the adoption of a real action plan through a Rural Agenda.
