Sustainable management of mountain grasslands – collection of good practices
Euromontana has compiled good practices for grasslands management for the Oreka Mendian LIFE project
Euromontana is publishing with the Oreka Mendian project a booklet of good practices showcasing 31 inspiring examples for the sustainable management of mountain grasslands gathered across 18 European countries. These good practices will inspire farmers, breeders and other local actors to increase the biodiversity of mountain grasslands, tackled climate change impacts and better market their products, among many others.
Oreka Mendian is a LIFE project (2016-2022) aiming at developing a preservation strategy for mountain grasslands in the Basque country (France & Spain). Euromontana is responsible for the actions related to the collection of good practices as well as with dissemination at European level.
The booklet includes good practices on sub-topics covering the 3 dimensions of sustainability:
- Environmental sustainability: biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation & adaptation, prevention of natural disasters.
- Economic sustainability: valuing products and services, economic diversification, innovation through modern technology, coexistence with wildlife.
- Social sustainability: improving working conditions and access to land, transferring knowledge and skills, revaluing pastoral and rural life, rural-urban linkages.
