Cultural heritage: an asset rooted in the territory synonymous with attractiveness and the future for our mountains!
Euromontana's vision of cultural heritage in mountain areas.
The XI European Mountain Convention was organised on 25, 26 & 27 September 2018 in Vatra Dornei, Romania, on the topic of cultural heritage.
Tangible and intangible cultural heritage in mountain areas and on how this strategic resource, inherited from the past, can be a key asset for developing sustainable and attractive mountain areas in the future.
The XI European Mountain Convention ended with the adoption by the participants of the Vatra Dornei Declaration “Cultural heritage: an asset rooted in the territory synonymous with attractiveness and the future for our mountains!”. This Declaration sets out Euromontana’s approach and position on mountains’ cultural heritage.
The Declaration includes:
- A statement on the importance of cultural heritage for mountain communities and Europe as a whole
- Recommendations for European, national, regional and local authorities to better value and preserve mountains’ cultural heritage. These include recommendations on the UNESCO, rural-urban linkages, digitalisation or research and innovation among others.
- Euromontana’s future actions to promote cultural heritage as a driver of sustainable development in mountain areas.
